Locating Articles in Renfro Library

If you have a citation for an article (from a bibliography or from a database that didn't provide the full text of the article), follow these steps to locate the text of the article.

You will need to know the periodical (magazine, journal or newspaper) title and issue date and the author, title, and pages of the article.

Please ask for help at the Research Assistance Desk if you need help!!

Check for availability via Renfro Library
    • Go to the Renfro Periodicals & Newspapers web page.
    • Search or browse for the JOURNAL in theJOURNAL LOCATOR, a listing of our electronic and print subscriptions.
    • If the title for the journal is listed, look to see if the coverage dates include the date that you need. The listing would either provide a link to an electronic subscription or indicate where the periodical is located in Renfro Library.
    • If there isn't a match for your journal title or date of coverage, check the MCLN listing (see below.)

    • For Periodical Subscriptions available Electronically
      • Click on the link to the database.
      • Refer to the article citation you have, select from the list of dates and/or issues.
      • Scroll through the list of articles to find the article you need.

Check for availability via MCLN (Mountain College Library Network)
    • On the Renfro Periodicals & Newspapers web page, search the MCLN Periodicals Holdings List for the periodical you need.
    • You must enter the full exact title of the periodical.
    • It is not necessary to decipher which library has the issue of the journal, only that it exists in MCLN.
    • Fill out a ILL request form (found on either service desk). The article(s) will be provided to you at no charge if available from one of these 12 colleges.
    • If the title of the journal is not listed, skip to the next option below.

    None of the Above
    • If the article you need is not available by using the options outlined above, a librarian can help you locate similar information in another source, see if UNC-A has the source you need, or help initiate an Interlibrary Loan Request (minimum $3/article; 2 week turn-around time).
