Return Books; Pay Bills May 1st & 2nd

All items checked out from Renfro Library and Harris MediaCenter must be returned by Thursday May 1st. If you need an extension of the loan period, just ask a supervisor!

Return items to avoid being billed for the replacement cost plus a $10 non-refundable processing fee per item. We don't want your $$$. We want the books back!

If you have any photocopy, interlibrary loan or other charges on your library account, come to the Library on Thursday May 1st or Friday May 2nd to pay your bill.

Unpaid bills are forwarded to the Business Office.

New Books & Media

Many have asked "What's new in the library? Well, since you asked, click here for the most recent list of titles added to Renfro Library and the Harris Media Center. This list is also linked from the Library Catalogs page on the Renfro Web.
The newest titles are displayed in the lobby of Renfro and are available for check out.



New E-Subscriptions

CQ Global Researcher provides thematic monthly reports offering a variety of international perspectives on global issues. (CQ Press)

LitFinder A full text literary database containing poems, short stories, essays, speeches and plays. Search or browse by genre, subject or author. (Gale)


New Video Collection from NCLive

NC LIVE has launched an incredible collection of PBS videos. You can access the videos by going to http://media.nclive.org or by linking from the Renfro Library Catalogs page.
The collection currently holds 223 files include Ken Burns’ “The Civil War”, “Baseball”, and “Jazz”, as well as selected episodes from “American Experience” and “Frontline”. An additional set of over 150 files will be added in late January. This set will include more “American Experience” and “Frontline” videos, as well as the children’s series “Cyberchase” and “Liberty’s Kids”.
Flash Media Player 9.0 or higher and a high-speed Internet connection are required in order to watch the videos on the computers in the library, or at home.

    Over the past several months, the staff of Renfro Library has been busy behind the scenes, preparing for our move to a new library system. The move is complete!!

    All automated library activities are affected, including check-out and other circulation activities, the library catalog, and book purchasing. Take a look at the library catalog here.

    What does this mean for you?

  • You MUST have your student ID for EVERY transaction.

  • Overdue notices will be emailed, so check your email regularly.

  • You can check your library record and renew books online.

  • Renew materials over the phone or in person without item in hand.

  • Items that are 3 weeks overdue will be charged a $10.00 non-refundable processing fee.

  • You can add up to $20 in library charges (photocopies, inter-library loan, etc) to your account to be paid by the end of the semester.

  • For more information on policies and services, check the library website or ask a staff member.

  • Book Sale !!

    Renfro Library will have an ever- changing selection of new and used books for sale each Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Look for the sale on the main floor of the library, near the Research Assistance Desk.

    It's a cash-and-carry sale, with paperbacks going for $1.00 and hardbacks for $2.00 each.

  • Renfro Book Club

    My Antonia by Willa Cather is our featured book for Spring 2008, as the choice for THE BIG READ, an initiative of the National Endowment of the Humanities and administered locally by Together We Read. Mars Hill College is a proud sponsor of Together We Read, and we offer the following resources for your enjoyment and interest.

    The official program site, includes reading and programming guides, and information about FABULOUS programming throughout Western North Carolina on My Antonia.


  • The Willa Cather Archive
    A rich site for the study of Willa Cather's life and writings. Provides digital editions of Cather texts -- her novels, short fiction, public letters, non-fiction, interviews, speeches -- scholarship as well as a large amount of digital scholarly content -- Cather Studies, Teaching Cather, photographs, biographies, virtual tours.   • Willa Cather Foundation
    Useful information on Red Cloud Nebraska, the setting of many of Cather's novels, including My Antonia. Also provides online e-texts including books, letters and interviews; reproductions of archival photographs, and links to web resources on Cather.
