Research Instruction
Library orientation and research instruction for classes or groups is available by appointment.
Librarians collaborate with the course instructor to design library research instruction that will address the needs of the students. These sessions can consist of one or multiple meetings.
The research instruction sessions can include instruction on locating appropriate resources for the research project, including using our library catalog, indexes and other print or electronic reference sources, as well as providing exposure to resources specific to your course.
These sessions are particularly useful for classes that involve a research project.
Please direct your requests to Ben Oberdick, Reference Services Librarian, x1391 or brobertson@mhc.edu
at least 2 weeks in advance.
Research Assignments
It is extremely helpful to the reference librarians to have an advance copy of your research assignment(s) with some information regarding the amount of guidance you wish (or do not wish) for us to provide to your students. Having a copy of your current syllabi on hand at the Research Assistance Desk will help us to provide better service to your students.
We would also be happy to work with you in developing any library research projects that you plan to assign to your students. Please take some time to review our resources when putting an assignment together. If our resources are limited, library reserves are a viable option. If the resources are not available in-house, interlibrary loan (ILL) is an option, but keep in mind that the U.S. Postal Service is involved, so advance planning is required. ILLs usually take about two weeks to arrive.
We will be happy to work with you and your students. Please call Ben Oberdick at x1391 for assistance.
